The internet is full of agencies you’ll never meet, in cities you’ll never visit, billing hours you’ll never understand. We’re the opposite of that on purpose — a small English studio that builds the way a good joiner builds: by hand, to last, and standing behind it afterwards.
Gildhouse began with a simple irritation: the best businesses on our high street — the ones with the queue out the door and the recipe nobody can copy — had the worst websites in town. Not because they didn’t care, but because everyone who’d offered to help had either baffled them or vanished.
So we set out to be the studio we wished they’d had: one that speaks plainly, charges fairly, and treats a family pub or a one-van trade with exactly the craft a London brand would pay ten times for. We keep the books small on purpose — a handful of clients at a time, each given the attention you’d want for something with your name above the door.
We’d rather be the best-kept secret on twenty high streets than a logo on a thousand.
What we believe
We answer the phone
No account managers, no ticketing system, no “your call is important to us”. You ring, a person who built your site answers. That’s the whole support policy, and it has never needed to be longer.
We build it to last
A Gildhouse site isn’t rented from us or held hostage. You own every pixel outright, on standards that will still work in ten years. If you ever leave, you take it with you — though in fifteen years, nobody has.
We say no, kindly
We turn away more work than we take. A studio that says yes to everyone has time for no one. If we’re not right for you, we’ll say so on the first call and point you to someone who is.
We’re from here
We grew up on these high streets, drink in these pubs, queue in these shops. We’re not a faraway agency guessing at British trade — we’re a few doors down, and we build like it.
The promise, in plain English
You’ll always know what something costs before we start it. You’ll never be passed to a stranger. You’ll never be locked in, charged for a change you didn’t ask for, or made to feel daft for not knowing the technical word for something. That’s our job, not yours.
And if it all goes well — which, touch wood, it tends to — you’ll have a shopfront online you’re quietly proud of, and a number to ring when you fancy changing it. That’s the entire arrangement. No catch, no small print worth the name.
